February 13 of every year is celebrated as World Radio Day worldwide.
It is a day proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and fully adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. In 2023, this international day enters its 12th edition themed “Radio and Peace”.
The Programme for Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa (PROCMURA) continued to create new synergies with churches across the region. Informed by its current strategic plan with the main theme of “Empowering, Strengthening and Deepening PROCMURA at the Grassroots”. This is to enable PROCMURA strengthen its structures at the grassroots level as well as develop and deepen partnerships and collaborations in realization of broader synergies for greater impact.
The vulnerability of young people to manipulation by elements of religious intolerance, radicalization, and violent extremism has continued to pose an existential challenge all across Africa. This has, for a long time, had an impact on peace and the peaceful coexistence of people from different religious backgrounds across the continent.
Women and Girls continue to be disadvantaged and marginalized in many aspects. It is well known that violent conflict unreasonably affects women and girls and increases pre-existing gender inequalities and discrimination. The role of women as agents of peace in armed conflict is never recognized, yet they play a major role as agents of peace and change, yet their role as key players and change agents has been largely unrecognized.
