Undoubtedly, in the face of conflicts, inequality, poverty, and a lack of sufficient economic opportunities, people need more than just hope. They need support systems to help them out of their situation or, at the very least, to help them cope in the short term. Based on these realities, we identified and started our Community Development programme as our strategic response to these pressing needs, focused on uplifting vulnerable populations and restoring human dignity.

Over the years, this initiative has provided a perfect platform for championing youth and women's empowerment, establishing Empowerment Centres as hubs and safe spaces where young people and women gain hands-on skills in various areas, including ICT, building economic independence, and accessing ongoing support.

This programme has also been a vehicle through which we have pooled resources with our partners to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid and life-saving relief to communities devastated by disasters, conflict, or displacement, ensuring that no one is left behind during times of crisis as they seek to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.

Under this umbrella, we have also managed to recognise and celebrate women's achievements, thereby acknowledging and affirming their contributions to society’s well-being. We strongly believe that investing in grassroots transformation, especially in areas hard-hit by unending conflicts, poverty and inequality, this intervention paves the way for stronger, more self-reliant communities across Africa.

The youth population in Africa, already the largest in the world, is estimated to double by the year 2050, accounting for more than 75 per cent of those under the age of 35. This buzzing, youthful population is undoubtedly a great asset, as it is capable of spurring the continent to realise its agenda on peace and development, thanks to its energy, innovativeness, and creativity. However, it is also a proven fact that the youth in Africa have remained a vulnerable population to manipulation and easy targets for those seeking to cause harm in society, such as those driving narratives that seek to divide people along political and religious lines.

Our Youth and Interreligious Cooperation programme is designed to address this stark reality. Through this programme, we create safe, collaborative spaces through camps, symposia, and PROCMURA Chapters in Learning institutions, where we equip young people with the knowledge and skills to promote interfaith cooperation, religious tolerance, mutual respect, and a shared purpose in driving social change in their respective communities.

At the core of the programme is the call to create inclusive communities free from religious discrimination, where youth work hand in hand, irrespective of their religious backgrounds or affiliations, to shape a more cohesive, peaceful, and prosperous Africa.

As the adverse effects of climate change continue to threaten lives and livelihoods across the Global South, including Africa, PROCMURA’s Interreligious Eco-Justice programme responds by tapping into a powerful yet often overlooked force for environmental action: faith. Our Interreligious Eco-Justice programme offers a bold, faith-based response, empowering Christians and Muslims to work together for environmental change through both mitigation and adaptation fronts.

Our unique approach to addressing matters of climate change brings together Christian and Muslim leaders, women, youth and the young ones to explore our shared religious teachings on caring for creation and to turn that shared understanding into authentic, local action. Grounded in biblical and Quranic principles, the programme equips faith communities with the knowledge and tools to become environmental stewards, recognising this as a shared spiritual and moral duty. From unpacking sacred texts to planting trees and promoting clean energy alternatives for rural women, the focus is both spiritual and practical.

This platform empowers communities across the continent to take the lead in protecting the environment, improving living conditions, and building a more sustainable future together. Our eyeballs remain focused on mitigating the effects of climate change and uplifting grassroots communities through faith-driven and people-centred and powered environmental action.

It has been proven time and again that conflicts (especially those that take religious dimensions), poor governance, and extremist religious ideologies continue to impede peace, fracture communities along ethnic, political, and religious lines, and derail development in many parts of Africa. To help address this situation and make Africa a peaceful continent, as outlined in our Vision, we’re currently running a programme on Religious Peacebuilding, Conflict Prevention, and Reconciliation.

We designed this programme to target various stakeholders, with a focus on building the capacity of local religious and community leaders, women, and youth in peacebuilding, conflict prevention and reconciliation. Our approach is based on the moral authority, trust, and influence that religious and community leaders hold in society. We equip them through intensive training, advocacy, and collaboration, enabling them to counter violent and religious extremism, promote peace, good governance, and inclusivity, and lead grassroots efforts in conflict resolution and reconciliation, all in the spirit of building cohesive and inclusive communities across Africa.

From creating counter-narratives to our grassroots approach, we strengthen local resilience and drive long-term, people-led change in building peaceful and democratic communities across the continent, where everyone has a voice and a stake in shaping a more peaceful and stable future.
