In the heart of Africa, where diverse cultures and religions intertwine, we find a profound opportunity for unity and peace. As we celebrate peace this season, it is good to remind ourselves that Islam and Christianity, two of the continent's major faiths, share core principles that advocate for love, compassion, and respect for one another.
Let us, therefore, remember that both religions teach the importance of community and the need to care for one another. The Quran encourages believers to act justly and uphold peace, while the teachings of Jesus Christ emphasise love for one's neighbour. Together, we can foster an environment where dialogue replaces discord and understanding triumphs over misunderstanding.
As we gather in our places of worship - mosques and churches alike - let us extend our hands in friendship and peace during this peace season and after. We are called to celebrate our differences while recognising our shared humanity. By standing together against violence and intolerance, we can create a legacy of peace for future generations.
May our shared commitment to justice, mercy, and harmony guide us as we work towards a brighter future for all Africans this season of expressing peace and harmony amongst us in Africa and beyond.
