Since its inception in 1959, PROCMURA has always been conscious that an informed programme on Christian-Muslim relations can only stand the test of time if theological institutions in Africa consciously carry out specialised training on the subject.
The pioneer African theologians who studied Islam and Christian-Muslim relations had to either do it at the one-time famous Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations (CSIC) in Birmingham, UK, or The Duncan Black Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, Hartford Seminary, Hartford, Connecticut.
At the PROCMURA General Council meeting in 2003, a decision was taken to explore possibilities of theological institutions in Africa introducing specialised masters programmes in Islam and Christian-Muslim relations to ensure that many Christian theologians will front the PROCMURA cause.
PROCMURA began discussions with St Paul's United Theological Seminary (now St Paul's University) in Limuru, Kenya, culminating in the introduction of the Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations (ICMR) Masters programme in 2004. Many years of discussions with the Protestant University of Central Africa (PUCA) Yaoundé, Cameroon, culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership between PROCMURA and PUCA on 21st April 2021. Two years later, PUCA has introduced the ICMR Masters programme.
The consultant of PROCMURA, Rev. Dr. Johnson Mbillah Ghana, was invited to acquaint himself with what they have begun and to give lectures. The general topic was "Christian-Muslim relations/Interreligious dialogue, with a specific focus on theological and existential issues on the subject. The teaching session, which was to be interspersed for two weeks, had to be crashed into a week (18 – 26 May 2023) because of visa issues. Thanks be to God that Ms. Joy Wandabwa, the PROCMURA Team Leader and her abled staff at the Central Office worked hard to secure the visa for his travel.
PROCMURA and PUCA leadership are excited and grateful to God that the objective was finally achieved after several years of discussions. The Rector of PUCA, Rev. Prof. Bouba Mbima, discussed with Dr. Mbillah the joy of introducing the programme and recalled how Dr. Hans Haafken, one-time General Adviser of PROCMURA, taught Christian-Muslim relations at PUCA. He prayed for PROCMURA Central Office to ensure that it lives up to the Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership by encouraging and finding scholarships for would-be French-speaking Central and West Africa students to study the subject at PUCA and assist in PROCMURA's work.

The Rev. Dr MOUNDE Lucas, the resident lecturer in the Theology department and one who has specialised in Islam and Christian-Muslim relations and participated in several PROCMURA programmes in Cameroun was in very high spirits that the programme has finally begun. He acknowledged the support of Jean-Claude Basset, a PROCMURA European Liaison Committee member who accompanied PUCA in ensuring that the programme suffered no further delay.
All seven (7) students are pursuing the Masters programme in ICMR, while twenty-three (23) students in the Theology department have chosen Christian-Muslim relations as one of the optional subjects.
Six of the seven students who are full-time students of the ICMR programme are with Rev. Dr. MOUNDE Lucas and Rev. Dr. Mbillah (middle of the pack)
