The Programme for Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa (PROCMURA) stands in solidarity with the peace-loving people of Cameroon as the country heads to the polls on Sunday, 12 October 2025, to elect its new president. We are calling for peace and restraint from all parties, urging Cameroonians to uphold peace and coexistence before, during and after this critical period in the nation’s history.
As a Pan-African Christian organisation that has, over the years, been working with various stakeholders in Cameroon to promote peace, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among people of different faiths and backgrounds in Cameroon, we fully understand that the country has, for a long time now, been grappling with conflicts that have torn apart communities, displaced families, and left deep scars on the social fabric of the nation. The prolonged crisis, particularly in the North West and South West regions, has disrupted lives and livelihoods and strained the country’s long-standing values of peace and togetherness.
As the country gears up for what is shaping into a highly contested presidential election, tension and anxiety are once again rising across communities, further fuelling the existing conflicts that have made peace difficult for many. Politically driven divisions, misinformation, mistrust, and suspicion threaten to rekindle the painful experiences of conflict that have already cost the nation dearly.
We, therefore, strongly urge all stakeholders, including political leaders, faith communities, civil society, and the electorate, to prioritise peace above all else during this electioneering period. Elections must not become another source of violence or division among communities striving to rebuild their lives after the prolonged conflict, but rather a moment for Cameroonians to express their democratic in peace.
"We are particularly calling on religious leaders and institutions to utilise their platforms and spheres of influence to promote peace, reconciliation, and responsible participation before, during, and even after the elections," the Chairperson of PROCMURA Rev. Robert Goyek, emphasized. "We also urge youth and community leaders, who are often highly manipulated to incite conflicts, to reject provocations, hate speech, and violence, and instead become ambassadors of peace within their communities."
Once again, we, the PROCMURA Family, stand in solidarity with the people of Cameroon and remain committed to supporting efforts that foster peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion before, during, and after the elections.
