Christian-Muslim Cooperation for Peace in Nigeria
Held in Kaduna from 6 to 9 October 2010, the conference brought together religious leaders, national Christian and Muslim bodies, public officials and peace actors from Kano, Bauchi, Plateau, Kogi and Kaduna states.
The conference created a space for Christian and Muslim leaders to examine conflict honestly, prevent future violence and strengthen peace and reconciliation together.

Selected Conference Highlights
Five-State Focus
Delegations from Kano, Bauchi, Plateau, Kogi and Kaduna analysed their different conflict experiences and identified priorities for local peacebuilding.
Multiple Causes
The proceedings recognise that violence cannot be explained by religion alone and consider economic, political, ethnic, land and extremist influences together.
Prevention First
PROCMURA emphasised preventing conflict before violence occurs, while also strengthening the capacity to manage existing tensions and support reconciliation.
Building a Regional Movement for Peace
- Christian and Muslim leaders were encouraged to deliberate openly on peaceful coexistence and conflict mitigation.
- Each participating state considered how to replicate the conference’s peacebuilding objectives locally.
- Religious leaders were called to acknowledge religious dimensions alongside other causes when developing comprehensive responses.
- The Kaduna Communiqué and state reports set out commitments and practical directions for follow-up.
