FRANCOPHONE WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICA REGIONAL INITIATIVE FOR CHRISTIAN AND

MUSLIM RELIGIOUS LEADERS CONFERENCE ON PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

MAROUA,CAMEROON,6TH-11TH JANUARY 2013

PROCMURA under the auspices of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren of Cameroon (ELFC) organised aconference on the theme: “Francophone West and Central Africa Regional Initiative for Christian and Muslim ReligiousLeaders for peace and development ” from 6th to 10th January 2013 which was held in Maroua , Cameroun. This regional conference  brought  together over sixty (60)Christian and Muslim religious leaders from twelve (12)Francophone West and Central African countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon(host country), Central African Republic, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda,Senegal, Chad and TogoPROCMURA deliberately chose these countries for such a conference with the understanding that they havesimilar as well as contrasting experiences on Christian-Muslim relations to share among themselves and with others.Presentations on two sub-themes of the conference were: Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities for collaboration for peace and Development and the Role of Religion in Peace and Development; Read the Maroua CommuniqueMoreover, this conference came at time when the Central African Republic was undergoing a difficult politico-military situation and this prompted religious leaders to prepare a message of peace that was sent to leaders meeting at the time in Libreville, Gabon for dialogue. We are happy that the message was handed over to all leaders present at the negotiations and equally aware that it had a great impact on the quest for peace and reconciliation in that country.   Follow this link to read the Message of Peace in the Central African Republic. For details of PROCMURA’s experiences on working with Christian and Muslims from those countries please refer to the PROCMURA NEWS page on the Website.
